Where to Watch the London New Year’s Eve Fireworks for Free

Wrap up warm

Each New Year’s Eve, the London skyline illuminates with a spectacular fireworks display that delights thousands of revelers. If you’re looking to witness this annual light show without spending a penny, we’ve got you covered. Here’s where you can catch the breathtaking pyrotechnics and drones for free.

London Bridges

Millennium Bridge and Tower Bridge may be closed this year, but there are still plenty of bridges where you can post up for a great view. Head to Southwark Bridge for a spot just northeast of the ticketed area. If it’s too crowded there, make your way south of the river to Lambeth Bridge or Vauxhall Bridge for the next best thing. Furthermore, Victoria Embankment, Waterloo Bridge, and Westminster Bridge should provide decent views as well.

Cannon Street/Monument

To the east of the display, the stretch between Cannon Street and Monument stations offers a decent vantage point. This area tends to get busy, so be sure to arrive early for a prime spot near the river.

Primrose Hill/Parliament Hill

If you prefer to avoid the city center, head north to Primrose Hill or Parliament Hill. These picturesque parklands offer elevated vantage points for a stunning view of the fireworks. Primrose Hill, with its 76m elevation, provides an excellent spot to enjoy the festivities. Alternatively, Parliament Hill’s higher elevation of 98m offers great visibility.

Greenwich Park

For a slightly less crowded viewing experience, head to Greenwich Park. The top of Point Hill in the park offers superb views of London. Arrive early as it tends to fill up quickly.

Alexandra Palace

If you’re a north London resident looking to avoid the city center crowds, Alexandra Palace is a good bet. Although it’s a bit further away, the steep climb to the top of the hill is worth it for the breathtaking views you’ll experience.

Remember, you won’t be able to enter the official event without a ticket. Additionally, certain areas may be closed off if they become too crowded. Plan your journey in advance, as some tube stations may have exit-only access or restricted service times. Keep in mind that tube travel is not free this year. Buses may also be on diversion from early afternoon, so check your route beforehand to avoid any travel mishaps.

As the event takes place during winter, make sure to dress warmly, as temperatures may drop to 8°C. Consider wearing something with a hood, as umbrellas may not be suitable due to the crowded conditions. Pack light and bring only the essentials.
