Departing Gaza and Traveling to Egypt

For individuals seeking to depart Gaza and travel to Egypt through the Rafah crossing, it’s crucial to monitor the Palestinian General Authority for Crossings and Borders’ Facebook Page for a list of those approved to cross. If you are a U.S. citizen, Lawful Permanent Resident, or immediate family member and require assistance but have not yet provided your information to the Department of State, please email the U.S. Embassy Jerusalem at JerusalemACS@state.gov with a copy of your travel document and an explanation or proof of relationship.

Traveling to Egypt

It’s important to note that the U.S. government does not control the crossing lists or determine who is permitted to depart Gaza or enter Egypt. Individuals must assess their own safety and risks when attempting to cross the border. If you are permitted to enter Egypt, you will likely receive a 72-hour Egyptian visa. It’s advisable to have a plan for onward travel from Egypt within this timeframe.

If you successfully enter Egypt and require further consular assistance, please contact the U.S. Embassy in Cairo via the U.S. Citizens Services Navigator. For U.S. citizens, Lawful Permanent Residents, and their immediate family members who wish to apply for a U.S. visa, you can do so at any U.S. Embassy or Consulate, subject to U.S. immigration laws and regulations.

Crossing Lists and Safe Passage

If your name has appeared on a crossing list since November 1, you should be permitted to cross as long as the border remains open for foreign nationals. However, we urge U.S. citizens, Lawful Permanent Residents, and their immediate family members to cross as soon as possible, as there is no guarantee the border will remain open. The U.S. Embassy continues to work in partnership with Egypt and Israel to ensure safe passage for U.S. citizens, Lawful Permanent Residents, and their immediate family members.
